Kristine Vilkina

Kristīne is a professional patent attorney specializing in trademark and design matters. She is also a lawyer, a representative before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and a member of the Latvian Patent Attorneys Association.

With over 20 years of experience, Kristīne has worked at the Patent Office of the Republic of Latvia, at Grindeks, and as a partner at AAA LAW Latvia.

In parallel with her professional activities, Kristīne is also a lecturer in intellectual property law at the University of Economics and Culture.

Biography

Kristīne began her career in the field of intellectual property at the Patent Office of the Republic of Latvia, starting as a trademark examiner. Over the course of her professional career, she steadily gained experience and was promoted to Deputy Director of the Trademark and Design Department. She later spent two years working in the intellectual property department of the international pharmaceutical company Grindeks. Subsequently, Kristīne worked for more than ten years at the patent attorney and law firm AAA LAW Latvia, where she specialized in resolving intellectual property disputes and gradually rose to the position of partner.

Experience

Kristīne's professional experience spans a wide range of intellectual property rights, with a particular focus on trademark and design protection in Latvia, the European Union, and internationally.

While working at the Patent Office of the Republic of Latvia, Kristīne gained in-depth knowledge of trademark and design examination, registration processes, and the application of relevant legal regulations in institutional practice.

At Grindeks, Kristīne managed an international trademark portfolio, conducted availability and risk analyses, and helped implement the company's global brand protection strategy.

At the patent attorney and law firm AAA LAW Latvia, Kristīne specialized in resolving intellectual property disputes, including representing clients before the Industrial Property Board of Appeal and the European Union Intellectual Property Office, as well as advising on trademark, design and copyright protection issues. She has represented clients in several significant trademark disputes involving the protection of both Latvian and internationally recognized trademarks. These include opposition proceedings concerning detriment to the interests of the owner of the well-known trademark “Venden”, as well as detriment to the repute of the European Union trademark “James Bond”.
